Construction works will involve the use of standard machinery typically found on building sites. This will include excavators, dumpers, rollers, and delivery wagons for the transport of materials and equipment.

All machinery will be operated by trained personnel and used in accordance with approved working hours, with measures in place to manage noise, safety, and site access.

Will there be any piling or other high‑impact operations? If so, when?

No piling works are proposed as part of this project. However, there will be some higher-impact activity associated with the removal of existing concrete in five locations on site. This work will take place over a one-day period at each location and is scheduled to occur during March and April. These activities will be carried out during approved working hours, and measures will be in place to minimise noise and disturbance as much as reasonably practicable.

3. Working Hours & Programme

What are the standard working hours on site?

Standard working hours on site will be Monday to Thursday from 07:30 to 17:30, and Friday from 07:30 to 15:00. All construction activities will be carried out within these hours unless otherwise agreed in advance.

Will any work take place during evenings or weekends, and if so, why?

No construction works are expected to take place during the evenings for the duration of the project.

Where required, occasional Saturday working may be undertaken to maintain programme progress. Any Saturday works would be limited to the hours of 08:00 to 13:00 and carried out in accordance with approved working practices to minimise disturbance to the local community.

How will the contractors notify the community if the schedule changes?

If there are any changes to the construction schedule, the community will be kept informed through updates on the Peel Ports website, Glasgow Life social media channels, and via information boards displayed outside site. These channels will be used to provide timely and accurate information about upcoming schedule changes to the works.

Will the works affect access routes around Yorkhill Quay or Glasgow Waters?

Yes, the walkway at the rear of Yorkhill Quay (National cycle route) will require to be closed and diversion in place for the initial circa 14 weeks of the project.

Are there any expected road closures, diversions, or footpath changes?

There will be some temporary traffic management and parking arrangements at the Riverside Museum throughout the project.

How will traffic management be handled to minimise disruption?

Traffic management will be carefully planned and implemented to minimise disruption during the construction works. This includes clearly signed access routes for vehicles, designated delivery areas, and controlled site entry and exit points. Where required, temporary traffic measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and road users, while maintaining the smooth flow of traffic around the site.

Will public transport or cycle routes be affected during the project?

Yes, National cycle route will require to be closed and diversion in place for the initial circa 14 weeks of the project. Full diversion signage will be in place.

Will the parking capacity change and if so, when?

Will buses still be able to access the site?

Yes, buses will still be running though the bus stop will be relocated to a temporary location and a new permanent location will be established by the ned of the project.

5. Environment and Sustainability

How are the works being carried out in an environmentally responsible way?

The project is being delivered with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Measures include careful management of waste and materials, minimising noise and dust, and protecting local wildlife and waterways. Sustainable construction practices are being applied wherever possible, and regular monitoring ensures that the works comply with environmental regulations and best practice standards.

Yes. For the quayside works adjacent to the River Clyde, ecological protections and monitoring are in place to safeguard the river environment. This includes measures to prevent pollution, protect aquatic habitats, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations throughout the construction process.

What sustainability measures are being incorporated into the project?

The project incorporates a range of sustainability measures to reduce its environmental impact. These include using recycled and low-impact construction materials, implementing waste reduction and recycling practices, minimising energy use on-site through efficient machinery, and protecting local habitats and waterways. Wherever possible, the design also promotes sustainable transport and access, such as pedestrian-friendly pathways and improved connections between local attractions.

Will there be archaeological monitoring?

Yes. Guard Archaeology Ltd have been appointed to monitor the works as they progress. They will take the lead if any items of archaeological significance are uncovered, following established procedures to ensure they are properly recorded, preserved, or managed.

6. Community Impact and Safety

How will the works affect nearby residents and businesses?

There are no residential properties near the work site. We have engaged with neighbouring venues [the Riverside Museum and Clydeside Distillery] ahead of construction to ensure careful planning and minimise any potential disruption.

Measures have been put in place so that employees and visitors at both venues can continue their activities without interruption. Regular stakeholder meetings will be held with both venues to provide updates on the works and quickly address any issues that may arise.

What safety measures are in place to protect the public during construction?

Public safety is a key priority throughout the construction works. The site will be securely managed with appropriate fencing, signage, and controlled access points to prevent unauthorised entry.

Traffic movements will be managed to reduce risk to pedestrians and road users, and clear, safe pedestrian routes will be maintained at all times.

Emergency access will be preserved throughout the works.

Measures will also be implemented to control dust, noise, and vibration, and all activities will be carried out in line with relevant health and safety regulations by trained personnel on site.

Will there be changes to lighting or site security during the works?

As part of the construction works, lighting in the area will be upgraded to improve visibility and safety. Site security will remain in place for the duration of the project to ensure the site is safe and secure at all times.
